2015 Gratitude Report

Gratitude Soapery Co-OwnersThanks to your support in 2015, we stayed super busy by helping change the world one bar of soap at a time. Want to know exactly what we mean by that? Check out the 2015 Gratitude Report:

Total Bars of Soap Donated

In 2015, we donated over 1,000 bars of premium, handmade soap thanks to your support! Since the opening of Gratitude Soapery, we’ve delivered over 2,250 bars of soap, in total, to underserved communities who are without the means to get clean.

Who We Donate To

To say that we are grateful for our Featured Organizationswould be an understatement; it is because of their commitment to serving others that we are able to do what we do: get soap to people that are enduring hardships and are in dire need of toiletries. Most of our donation soaps get in to the hands of sex & labor trafficking survivors, displaced LGBTQA youth, and anyone who may be homeless in our community. Here is a list of the nonprofits, shelters and missions that helped us make it happen last year: CASH (Communities Against Sexual Harm), My Sisters House, Sacramento LGBT Center, Loaves and Fishes, IRC (International Rescue Committee) Sacramento, as well as Saint John’s Program for Women and Children.

# of Students We Taught

Through our Soap Sessions program, we meet with unique individuals, from all walks of life, and help them on their journey through the utilization of the art and science that is soap making. Given that a majority of our students are below the poverty line, we like to teach them how to use unconventional materials, such as corrugated boxes, trash bags and vegetable oils available at food banks, to make soap on a very modest budget. In 2015, we taught 50+ people how to handcraft their own natural soap.

Added Bonuses

There are also a lot of other awesome things that we accomplished in 2015! To start, we helped save endangered species (i.e. orangutans, sun bears, gibbons, Sumatran tigers, and Malayan tapirs) and their habitats by the intentional non-use of palm oil in our products. Our philosophy is to make the world a better place and we accomplish that by standing up against the use of palm oil.

In order to reduce our waste, we refashioned all of our soap production trimmings in to the beautiful bars of soap that we donate. What would usually be the waste of another maker is a treasure for our soapery and the people we help!

As for getting our message out there, last year we had the pleasure of working with our local NPR radio station: Capital Public Radio. Every year, they hold a huge fund drive to help support their operation; in 2015, their donors could select to have us gift a bar of soap to someone in need as a part of their donation to the station. Needless to say, the response was massive and we were able to donate tons of soap thanks to the support of their listeners.

Lastly, we received our LGBT Business Enterprise certification through the NGLCC. That means, we can now contract with Fortune 500 companies (like Nordstrom!), that have diversity initiatives to work with minority owned businesses, to help make the world a cleaner place!

Get 1 – Give 2

By now, we hope you know that you are the reason we achieve our mission to combine our love for soap making and humanity! To celebrate our success in 2015, and to thank you for making it happen, we will donate 2 bars of soap for every bar you pick up from our shop throughout the rest of March.

Thank you so much for taking a moment to check out the 2015 Gratitude Report. This year, we hope to donate at least double the amount of soaps and classes that we did last year. Luckily, we have a compassionate and loving customer like you to help us do just that!
Gratefully,
